MALAYSIA HOME MINISTRY PROBES DUMPING OF MISPRINTED COPIES OF QURAN

KOTA BAHARU (Kelantan, Malaysia), Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The Publication and Quranic Text Control Division of the Home Ministry is investigating the disposal of a trailer load of misprinted copies of the Quran in Bachok near here last Thursday.

Its state director Mohd Zaid Mohd Yusoff said the incident was brought up at a meeting at the division's headquarters in the country's federal administrative capital Putrajaya on Tuesday and a special committee was set up to investigate the incident.

The disposal of unusable copies of the Quran must adhere to the ministry's procedures, he said when commenting on the dumping of misprinted copies of the Quran by a trailer driver in a shrubby area in Kampung Pak Endeng, Pauh Sembilan near Bachok last Thursday.

Kelantan deputy mufti Nik Abdul Kadir Nik Mohamad said it is a sin for Muslims not to respect the Quran, even if it is not in its proper form.
