PREPARATIONS IN FULL SWING IN MEDINA TO WELCOME MALESIAN PILGRIMS
MEDINA (Saudi Arabia), Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Preparations by Tabung Haji (Malaysian Pilgrimage Board) are in full swing to welcome the arrival of Malaysian pilgrims here and to ensure comfort for them during the Haj period.
Tabung Haji Haj operations officer here, Shahrunnajmi Basharuddin, said they had been monitoring the accommodation for the pilgrims and making various preparations like providing medical treatment centres and making arrangements for the visit programme and food for the pilgrims.
He said more than half of the 28,000 Malaysian pilgrims will be in Medina first before leaving for Mecca for the Umrah (minor pilgrimage) and Haj.
"More than 200 Tabung Haji workers, comprising those from Malaysia and locals, are ready to assist the pilgrims.
"The pilgrims will also be assisted by 65 volunteers who are Malaysian students studying here. They have been given a special course to ensure efficiency," he told Malaysian journalists covering the pilgrimage this year.
The first batch of 450 Malaysian pilgrims will arrive here on Thursday at about 5.30am (local time) and the second batch at about 3pm.
Shahrunnajmi said while here, the pilgrims will be staying at the Al-Haram, Safa Safer and Movenpick hotels, and will be taken on a visit to eight locations.
He said food preparation is left to TH Global which has brought in a group of chefs and several ingredients from Malaysia to ensure the food satisfies the pilgrims' palates.
The medical treatment centre here for the Malaysian pilgrims is located at the Alauddin building, which is the headquarters for the Malaysian Haj management team in Medina.
The group of Malaysian journalists were also taken on a tour to look at the rooms of the hotels where the Malaysian pilgrims will be staying. These are located near Al-Nabawi Mosque, the final resting place of Prophet Muhammmad and the second mosque built in history.
