12,000 LOW-COST HOUSES UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN MALAYSIA'S SELANGOR STATE

SHAH ALAM (Selangor, Malaysia), Sept 28 (Bernama) -- A total of 12,009 low-cost houses are under construction in Selangor state, according to its Housing, Building Management and Squatters Committee Chairman Iskandar Abdul Samad.

"Some 9,465 low-cost houses have been approved for construction and must be completed in two years," he told reporters after the State Executive Council (Exco) meeting here on Wednesday.

He said there was still demand for low-cost houses, with 15,545 built and 31,081 applicants on the waiting list.

"The State Government has decided that those eligible should be given the opportunity to buy low-cost houses," he added.

Iskandar said they must be Malaysian citizens above 18 years, residing in Selangor, and with household income not exceeding RM2,500 (US$790.5) per month.

One application is only allowed for one family and the applicant must not own a house via government or private sector projects.

He urged those offered low-cost houses to accept them or they will be offered to other applicants and their names removed from the waiting list.
