DIGI, MY EVOLUTION LAUNCH MALAYSIA'S FIRST M2M MVNO SERVICE
SHAH ALAM (Malaysia), Sept 28 (Bernama) -- DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd has teamed up with MY Evolution Sdn Bhd to launch Malaysia's first machine-to-machine (M2M) mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service.
Under the deal, MY Evolution will ride on DiGi's infrastructure to provide end-to-end M2M communications services.
DiGi's head of strategy and business transformation, Christian Thrane, said the partnership was timely especially given the government's and private sector's push to stimulate demand and growth in the domestic M2M market.
"The M2M business is market-driven where MY Evolution as an MVNO can
complement DiGi's strategy by offering industry solutions," he said at the launch of the service here on Wednesday with MY Evolution's managing director, Philippe Buriot.
Buriot said Asia would contribute significantly to the M2M expansion in the next few years.
"The Asia-Pacific revenue will increase from RM2.2 billion (US$695.65 million) today to over RM7.6 billion (US$2.403 billion) in 2015, with a compound annual growth rate of 27 per cent," he said.
Meanwhile, a Frost and Sullivan Inc study showed that the global M2M
communications market was predicted to experience a growth spurt in the coming years, with 31 per cent contributed by the Asian region.
The study showed that M2M connections in Asia-Pacific were expected to reach 116.6 million by 2015 from 202.8 million recorded last year.
In addition to China and India, the Malaysian market was expected to grow faster than the Asia-Pacific coverage.
