S'PORE-M'SIA JUDICIARY TIES VERY GOOD: EX-MALAYSIA CJ

SINGAPORE, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- The cooperation between the judiciaries in Singapore and Malaysia has been very good in the past few years, said Malaysia's former Chief Justice Zaki Azmi.

"I believe that during the years when I was the Chief Justice, the
relationship between the two had never been better. To this, I must say thank you to Singapore's Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong.

"On his suggestion, we formed the annual joint judicial conference and for next year will include Brunei as well," he said at the Singapore Academy of Law's 18th Annual Lecture 2011 here on Wednesday.

Zaki's lecture was entitled "The Common Law of Malaysia in the 21st
Century".

Also present was Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Md Hussin Nayan.

Zaki said Singapore had also graciously accepted Malaysia's invitation to attend training and conferences in Malaysia and likewise Malaysia had done the same in respect of conferences and meetings in Singapore.

"I am confident that my successor will continue to foster this relationship and exchanges closer," he added.
