MALAYSIA 'A DESTINATION OF CHOICE' FOR SAUDI FAMILIES
From Abdul Aziz Harun
MEDINA (Saudi Arabia), Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is becoming a
destination of choice for Muslim families from Saudi Arabia owing to its
conducive atmosphere, says Malaysian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Prof Syed Omar Syed Al-Saggaf.
He said about 90,000 Saudi tourists visited Malaysia last year and the figure is expected to increase to 100,000 this year.
He said previously, Saudi families used to travel overseas during the summer as the temperature was unbearable, but with aggressive marketing by Malaysian tour agencies, the weather is no longer a factor.
"Previously, Saudi tourists were enticed to spend their holidays in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia but now they are also interested to visit other places, including the east coast," he told reporters after welcoming the first batch of haj pilgrims from Malaysia at Movenpick Hotel here on Thursday.
He said Malaysian companies are involved in the construction of a monorail system connecting Mecca to Mina, Al-Malik Faisal University development projects and housing schemes in Saudi Arabia.
