40 MALAYSIA FIRMS TO ATTEND MUMBAI TRADE SHOW
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) chairman Mah Siew Keong will be leading a delegation of more than 40 Malaysian companies comprising manufacturers and service providers to Mumbai next month.
There, they will highlight their products and services in sectors such as automotive parts and components, lifestyle, electrical and electronic products, business services, oil and gas, machinery, and food and beverages.
The event, Showcase Malaysia-Mumbai, will be held from Oct 12 to 14.
It is the first single-country exhibition tailored exclusively for Malaysian exporters to showcase their products and services in India’s business and financial capital.
In a statement on Friday, Matrade said: "India’s economic growth of more than eight per cent coupled with India’s population of more than 1.2 billion with its 20 per cent middle-income group, makes India one of the most valuable destinations for Malaysian exporters.
"Showcase Malaysia–Mumbai is also aimed at leveraging on the Malaysia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (MICECA), under which the duty imposed on imports of Malaysian furniture would eventually be abolished by 2014 while duty for food products such as pastries and biscuits, currently at 20 per cent, would also be abolished by 2014."
From Jan to July 2011, exports to India were valued at RM16.7 billion (US$5.24 billion), an increase of 37.8 per cent from RM11.73 billion (US$3.68 billion) in the same period last year.
