UAE's super luxurious Atlantis Resort opened
Dubai, Sep. 25, 2008 (WAM) - The Palm Atlantis, a super luxury resort described as a magnificent, oceanic tribute to a mythological age, today was opened in a grand ceremony in Dubai.
The super-luxurious resort boasts an indoor ski-slope and a giant open-air tank holding dolphins which have been flown in from the Solomon Islands.
Developed on Palm Jumeirah, a palm tree-shaped artificial island off the coast of Dubai, the resort which consists of 1359 room and suites was implemented by a team of 3000 people who worked day and night.
Alongside the resort's ocean-themed entertainment there will be a 1,800-seat theatre nearby housing a permanent Cirque du Soleil show beginning in summer 2011.
The Aquarium (known as Aquaventure) holds some 65,000 marine animals, including sharks, eels, rays, piranhas, as well as multitudes of exotic fish. A local Dubai newspaper reports that the captured whale shark will "eventually be tagged and released".
