‘Iran will not give IAEA a blank check for inspections’

TEHRAN, Oct.2 (MNA) – Tehran will not give the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) a blank check for inspection of Iran’s nuclear facilities, Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA said.

“Any measure to increase inspections or install cameras should be taken within the framework of the safeguards agreements,” Ali Asghar Soltanieh said on Saturday.

“We hold talks on each request of the agency for months. And after we are satisfied that the agency’s request is justified and logical, we accept that particular request on condition that they will not make such a request once again,” he said. “We have not given and will not give them a blank check for inspections.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Soltanieh pointed to the IAEA officials’ recent visit to Iran’s nuclear facilities and said Iran, in line with the policy of transparency and cooperation, took a great step and allowed IAEA officials to visit its nuclear facilities.

“We expect agency officials and member states to be grateful for Iran’s step and reciprocate with similar moves,” he said.

No question on Fordo

Soltanieh also said the recent report released by the IAEA show that the agency has no new question about the Fordo uranium enrichment facility.

Iran has informed the IAEA about the specifications of the centrifuges, which are planned to be installed at the facility, and the agency has confirmed Iran’s reports.

In addition, the diplomat dismissed the claims that Iran is stalling for time to push ahead with its nuclear drive and said Iran will not suspend it nuclear activities.

But, he said, Iran is still ready to answer IAEA’s questions within the framework of the modality plan signed by Tehran and the UN nuclear watchdog in 2007 in order to refute the claims.
