Iran supports justice on Palestine: Iranian foreign minister

TEHRAN, Oct. 2 (MNA) – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that Iran supports efforts aimed at adopting fair policies toward Palestinians.

“We along with the majority of the international community including members of the Non-Aligned Movement have always supported measures aimed at adopting fair and appropriate policies toward Palestinians, which are based on the rights of Palestinian people,” Salehi said during an address to ambassadors to the UN from various countries.

The top diplomat added crisis in Palestine is the main reason behind outrage in the Islamic world.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi said the United Nations must observe justice.

The UN needs some reforms in accordance with developments in the world, Salehi said. He suggested that the UN should be viewed as an inter-governmental agency that is run by its own members.

Salehi rejected unilateral reforms in efforts to restructure the UN, saying any reforms should be inclusive, clear and efficient.

The minister went on to say that Iran like many other countries is concerned about the Security Council’s tendency to increase its power.

He suggested that the number of the Security Council members should also be increased.

He also pointed to the World War I, II and catastrophic incidents in Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Vietnam, saying today Western media outlets are distorting truths and trying to promote Iranophobia.
