5th International Conference on Palestinian Intifada in Tehran

TEHRAN (FNA)- The 5th International Conference on the Palestinian Intifada opened in Tehran on Saturday with the participation of parliamentary delegations and several speakers, top political figures and scholars from fifty Islamic nations and other countries as well as representatives of the Palestinian factions.
The motto adopted for the two-day Conference - "Palestine, a land only for Palestinians" - allowed no doubts about the aim of its organizers to mobilize all official and non-official capacities in the Islamic world and beyond to support the Palestinian Intifada and work to implement the Palestinians' inalienable rights to shake off the Zionist occupation and ensure the Palestinian refugees' right to return to their homeland.

Addressing the Conference, Palestinian leader and chairman of Hamas Political Bureau Khaled Meshaal criticized the Palestinian Authority's official bid for statehood at the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council saying the move would lead the Palestinians' struggle against the Zionist occupation astray.

He argued that since the Zionist enterprise is aimed at wiping out the Arabic-Islamic culture and social fabric of Palestine and considering that all past attempts to negotiate and compromise have proven fruitless, resistance is the only way to protect the Palestinians' interests and rights.

Expressing gratitude toward the Islamic Republic of Iran and its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei for their firm support for the Palestinian resistance, Khaled Meshaal voiced confidence that the "Palestinian Intifada will win thanks to the support of the Muslim nations. The entire territory of historical Palestine will be liberated in the near future".

Despite the unquestionable importance of the Palestinian leader's speech, highlight of the Conference on its first day was the address of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who openly mocked US President Barack Obama for defining Israel's security concerns as the red line of US foreign policy.

"The US President says that Israel's security is his red line. Who or what has drawn this red line? The interests of the American nation - or Obama's need for the money and support of Zionist companies to secure his second term as the US President ?"

"This red line drawn by Obama and people like him will be crossed by Muslim nations that have risen up," he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei concluded urging Muslim countries to cut diplomatic and economic relations with Israel to prove their sincerity in supporting the Palestinians' rights.

Instead of supporting the Palestinian Authority's bid for statehood within the June 1967 borders, Ayatollah Khamenei proposed staging a referendum for all Palestinians, including the refugees scattered in various parts of the world, to determine their own fate.
