UAE, USA discuss education cooperation

Washington D.C., Sep. 25, 2008 (WAM) - UAE Minister of Education Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali and U.S Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-AL) of Alabama and Ranking Member on the House Financial Services Committee discussed relations and cooperation between their two countries with a focus on education.

During the meeting which took place in Washington, Sen. Bachus hailed the good reputation the UAE is enjoying in the US as a model of modernity and progress.

He said The University of Alabama is ready to further promote relations with education institutes of the UAE.

For his part, Ali hailed education cooperation and ties between the UAE and USA.

He noted that the UAE Ministry of Education and the U.S. Department of Education signed a number of agreements to develop training and development programmes to elevate professional qualifications of the teaching and administrative staff.

Congressman Spencer Bachus is serving his eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election in 1992, Bachus served in the Alabama House of Representatives and the State Senate and was the first Republican elected to the State School Board in more than 100 years. Bachus also managed Governor Guy Hunt's campaign in his first successful run for the statehouse.

Bachus visited the UAE on several occasions in the past and is said to be keen on maintaining contacts with the UAE officials.
