SUDANESE TOURIST DROWNS IN LANGKAWI
LANGKAWI (Bernama) - A tourist from Sudan drowned in the waters off Pantai Cenang here after he was hit by a strong wave, Saturday.
Northern Region Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency chief, First Admiral Muhammad Abdul Basar Taji said passers-by found the body of Mohamad Hassan Ibrahim Adam, 22, washed ashore at the beach, not far from where the victim and his friends had been swimming, about 8am Sunday.
Two of the victim's friends, Mohamad Nazar Mohamed Abbala, 21, and Mohamed Abdullah Ali Osman, 24, also Sudanese, were however unharmed in the incident.
Muhammad Abdul Basar said they launched search operations with the Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Department after the friends reported the incident at 3.45 pm Saturday.
Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia.
