BALI'S LATEST TOURISM PRODUCT: THE UNDERWATER POST BOX
By Ahmad Fuad Yahya
JAKARTA (Bernama) - Indonesia's postal company launched its first undersea post box, and the second in the world after Australia, at Pantai Amed dive resort in Karangasem, Bali on Sunday.
The letter box, in the shape of a curved stonework, serves as a gate to the prayerhouses and buildings in Bali, dubbed 'Land of the Gods'.
The launch was part of programmes to mark the company's 265th anniversary.
"We want to support the country's sea tourism and introduce Amed to foreign divers who have mainly been focusing on Pantai Kuta," said Pos Indonesia managing director I. Ketut Mardjana, as reported in the country's daily newspaper, Kompas, on Monday.
Mardjana said the postal process followed the normal procedure, except for the use of waterproof papers. In this regard, the company would be getting the cooperation of local divers.
Customers are charged Rp10,000 (RM3.50 or US$1.09) for a letter that can be shipped anywhere in the world.
