Iran to commemorate Persian poet Nezami Ganjavi in Ganja

TEHRAN,Oct.4(MNA)-- The ancient city of Ganja in the Republic of Azerbaijan will be hosting a commemoration ceremony in honor of Iranian romantic epic poet Nezami Ganjavi (c. 1141-1209 CE) during the Iranian Cultural Festival.

Known for his “Leili and Majnun” and “Khosrow-o-Shirin”, Nezami Ganjavi lived and died in Ganja, an ancient city in Azerbaijan, where his mausoleum stands. He wrote in Persian, as it was the literary custom of the day.

Iranian Minster of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini at the head of an Iranian delegation arrived in Baku on Monday morning to attend the Iranian Cultural Festival in Azerbaijan.

The two cities of Baku and Ganja are hosting the festival and programs are divided between them. Baku is hosting the event for three days from October 3 to 5 and Ganja for two days on October 6 and 7.

Several programs are arranged for the festival including Iranian film screenings, live music performances, puppet shows, and book fair, as well as art and culture exhibitions.

Iranian artisans will also be displaying a variety of their arts including traditional costumes, handicrafts and Persian carpets.

According to the minister, cultural relations between Iran and Azerbaijan play a major role in development of friendly ties between the two countries.

Tehran and Tabriz hosted the Azerbaijan Cultural Festival last year, which was attended by Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev.
