LAST GROUP OF MALAYSIAN STUDENTS IN SYRIA ARRIVE WEDNESDAY
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- The last group of Malaysian students in Syria are expected to arrive here on Tuesday, a Foreign Ministry statement said on Tuesday.
The arrival of 43 Malaysia students from Syria means that 139 students had been brought home from the troubled Middle-East country.
"Their return coordinated by the National Security Council and Malaysian embassy in Damascus involves three stages with the first group on Sept 19," according to the statement.
The government's decision to bring the students home was a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incidents due to unrest in the country.
Meanwhile, the remaining 60 Malaysian students in Syria registered with the embassy are safe and most are planning to relocate to a neighbouring country.
The embassy advised Malaysians in Syria to be wary of current developments and to stay away from trouble spots.
The ministry also advised Malaysians to postpone trips to Syria until the situation over there improves.
