Iranian actress Fariba Kowsari presiding over Baghdad festival jury

TEHRAN,Oct. 5(MNA) -- Iranian actress Fariba Kowsari is presiding over the Baghdad International Film Festival (BIFF) jury.

Over 150 movies from 32 countries including France, Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, Lebanon and Denmark are competing during the event which will run until October 10.

“Despite the security situation in the country and all kinds of obstacles facing us, I believe this edition will be the biggest and the best yet,” festival director Taher Alwan told AFP.

Films will be judged for awards in three categories – best drama, best short film and best documentary, with two other prizes reserved for best young Iraqi director, and best female Arab filmmaker.

After the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, BIFF is the first international film festival in Iraq. It is organized by No Borders Iraqi Cinematographers NGO, which is based and officially registered in Iraq –Baghdad.
