Iranian boxer Ruzbahani seals Olympic berth
BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 5(MNA) -- Iran’s Ehsan Ruzbahani booked an Olympic berth on Tuesday after beating Joseph Ward from the Republic of Ireland in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Ruzbahani advanced to the 2011 World Boxing Championship quarterfinal round and will take on Elshod Rasulov on Wednesday.
He was defeated by Rasulov in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and will be seeking revenge against the Uzbek.
The 81kg class could make history if he would clinch a medal in the World Championship. No Iranian boxer has won a medal in the World Championship yet.
“I am so happy because I sealed an Olympic berth for Iran. I owe this success to my brother, who is always supported me. Also, thank to my coaches, who taught me so much,” Ruzbahani said.
“Rasulov has defeated me in 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and I want to take revenge from him in this game. I know how to defeat him,” he claimed.
