NEW RULES INTRODUCED IN MEDINA FOR PILGRIMS' CONVENIENCE

MEDINA, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The Saudi Arabian Haj management body has introduced some new rules this year for the convenience and comfort of pilgrims.

Chairman of the National Adilla Establishment, Dr Yusof Hawala, said for this Haj season, pilgrims would not be allowed to leave Medina for Mecca after 11pm.

He said this was for their own convenience when arriving in Mecca, as well as for their own safety and also to enable them to perform their Haj obligations perfectly.

"The pilgrims are asked to leave Medina for Mecca by 5th Zulhijjah, the latest, (four days before wukuf)," he said at a news conference when Malaysian Haj delegation head Syed Salleh Syed Abdul Rahman paid a courtesy call on him at his office.

Yusof said for the second phase of the Haj programme, the pilgrims would only be allowed to enter Medina after 14th Zulhijjah, which is five days after wukuf, to visit the religious sites.

He said all the arrangements were made to ease the entry into and exit from Medina, thus facilitating performance of the fifth tenet of Islam by the pilgrims.

On the management of Haj pilgrims from Malaysia, Yusof said they received enough cooperation from the Tabung Haji (Malaysia's Pilgrims Fund) where several discussions were held between the two sides since early this year to ensure that everything would go on smoothly.

He hoped that such close cooperation with Tabung Haji would continue.
