Iranian weightlifter Salimi sets new world record
TEHRAN, Oct.8 (MNA) -- Iran’s weightlifter Behdad Salimi has set a new world record in the +105kg category.
At the Iran’s training camp on Thursday held at Sanandaj’s Takhti Stadium in Kurdistan province, Salimi improved the record of 213kg set by the Iranian Hercules, Hossein Rezazadeh, in the 2004 Olympics Games.
Salimi also lifted 256kg in clean and jerk, one kilogram over Rezazadeh’s record.
The 22-year-old lifter won a gold medal in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, lifting 205kg in snatch and 235kg in clean and jerk and 440kg in total.
The +105kg category also claimed the gold in the 2010 World Weightlifting Championships in Antalya, Turkey.
Salimi lifted 208kg in snatch and 245kg in clean and jerk. He claimed the gold with a total weight of 453kg.
Salimi is gearing up for the 2011 World Weightlifting Championship which will take place in Paris, France from November 5 to 13.
