Iranian cultural festival underway in Algeria
TEHRAN,Oct.9(MNA) -- Algeria’s Tlemcen city, Capital of Islamic Culture 2011, is hosting an Iranian cultural exchange program.
Iran’s ambassador to Algeria Mahmud Ahmadi spoke at the opening ceremony of the event that will run until October 11.
Photos, cartoons, Iranian paintings, handicrafts and sculptures by Iranian artists are on display during exhibits at the event.
The book “Tlemcen, Resistance and Mysticism” written by Mohammad-Ali Azarshab will also be unveiled during a ceremony on the sidelines of the program.
Shahriar Bahrani’s “Saint Mary”, Seyyed Reza Mirkarimi’s “So close, so Far”, Dariush Mehrjuii’s “Mom’s Guests” and Kiumars Purahmad’s Night Bus” are among the films that will go on screen during the event.
The program is cosponsored by the Iranian Embassy in Algeria and the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO).
ICRO director Mohahammd-Baqer Khorramshad is scheduled to speak at the closing ceremony.
Tlemcen’s centuries rich in history and culture have made the city a center for a unique blend of music and art. Its textiles and handcrafts, its elegant blend of Islamic, Berber, Andalusian and French cultures, and its cool climate in the mountains have made it an important center of tourism in Algeria.
