Iran to host Asian canoe sprint contests
TEHRAN, Oct.9(MNA) – Iran will host the 14th Asian Canoe Sprint Championships in the capital Tehran from October 13 to 17.
A total of 20 Asian countries including South Korea, China, Singapore, Macau and Kazakhstan have announced their readiness to take part in the competitions.
“Iran has made all its efforts to hold this very important event in the finest way,” head of Iran Canoe Federation Ahmad Donyamali said on Saturday in Tehran.
He added,”Such events should be an opportunity for all athletes to practice fairness and peace, which are the real goals of sport beyond the competitions.”
He stated that Iran’s rich culture along with sportsmanship of people can provide the best atmosphere for the athletes to compete in these games.
The 14th Asian Canoe Sprint Championships will also serve as a qualifier for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
