Tehran’s Vahdat Hall hosts recitations of world poets
TEHRAN, Oct.10(MNA) -- Vahdat Hall hosted the opening ceremony of the 2nd Congress of Iranian and International Poets in which several foreign poets recited their poetry.
Yahya Talebian, Iranian deputy minister of culture for poetry and literature made the opening speech in which he expressed hope the foreign participants help transfer the reality of Persian literature to their countries.
The congress has been arranged with the aims of exchanging views and helping to promote justice, peace and friendship, Talebian added.
Iran is opening its arms for all the world literati who are walking with humanity, since the message of Islamic culture and civilization is to show love toward God and His creatures, he mentioned.
Secretary of the program Musa Bidaj next said that each nation has presented one great poet to the world, but Persian culture has presented at least five great poets to the world.
Attended by over 40 poets coming from 31 countries, the ceremony continued with poetry recitation by Chinese poet Li Yan followed by a short speech delivered by scholar and poet Victor Alkik from Lebanon.
Alkik talked about the importance of translation of Persian literature into foreign languages and said that Persian literature enjoys lofty values of humanity that are not observed in other world literature.
Persian poets have highlighted the feeling of friendship in their poetry and have always asked for peace and not war, he added.
Several programs are also arranged for the upcoming days including poetry recitation sessions to be held at the universities of Tarbiat Modarres and Allameh Tabatabaie as well as the Iranian Artists Forum.
The conference will continue in Shiraz on October 11 where the guests will be visiting several historical places such as Hafez’s Mausoleum, Persepolis, and Vakil Bazaar. It is also expected that they will be reciting their poetry.
Alfred A. Yuson from Philippines, Balram Shukla from India, Edward Militonian from Armenia, Khaled al-Najar from Tunisia, and Erling Kittelsen from Norway are among the foreign guests.
