Iranian radio program wins UNICEF award

TEHRAN,Oct.12(MNA) – An Iranian radio program performed by two children won the Regional UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Fund) Award for International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB).

The program, named “My Child, is aired on the Salamat Radio. It features two children performing the show, in absence of the host, for a group of children sitting in the studio.

The program won the award in a competition with submitted works in the Middle East and North African (MENA) Region.

The program addressing children’s issues was submitted by the producer Mitra Ziaei for the contest.

UNICEF Iran Officer in Charge Anna Riatti congratulated Ziaei on winning the award and wished her luck for the prestigious ICDB Global award.

“I would like to take this opportunity and invite all Iranian broadcasters, on television and radio, to join the future ICDB competitions and empower young people through involving them in media.”

The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting celebrated on the first Sunday of March when broadcasters around the world are encouraged to allow young people to get involved in television and radio broadcasting.

On that day, youth write, report, produce and present programs that allow them to reach a wide audience with their thoughts on the issues that affect them.

The 2011 ICDB theme, “Girls Are… Boys Are…,” and asked children to talk about children’s rights and their importance.

“My Child” will compete with other regional winners for the 2011 ICDB Global Award and the results will be announced on December 5 2011 in New York.
