PM NAJIB SENDS CONDOLENCES TO THAI PM OVER FLOOD DEATHS
BANGKOK, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has
extended Malaysia's condolences to the families of the people killed in the
current critical floods in Thailand.
"On behalf of the Malaysian government, I would like to offer my heartfelt
condolences to the families of those who have been killed.
"Our sympathy also goes to the government and people of the Kingdom of
Thailand, especially to the families affected by the flooding," he said in a
letter sent to his Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra.
The letter, dated Oct 11, was conveyed to the Thai Foreign Ministry
Wednesday and made available to Bernama here Thursday.
Najib also said that he was saddened to learn about the continuous
torrential rain in the central and northern regions of Thailand, which has
triggered widespread flooding in many provinces and resulted in the loss of
lives and damage to property.
The Malaysian premier said he was confident that under Yingluck's leadership
and the government's close attention, Thailand would be able to overcome these
difficulties with steadfastness.
About 40 per cent of Thailand remains flooded, with 2.2 million people from
more than 10,000 villages in 28 provinces in the north and central regions
affected by the floods.
The death toll rose to 281 as of yesterday.
More than 900 factories, 1.5 million hectares of agricultural land and 9.9
million livestock were affected by the floods.
