TEHRAN,Oct.15(MNA) – The performances of Iranian traditional music by the Siva ensemble enchanted Algerians in Tlemcen city, the Capital of Islamic Culture 2011.
The ensemble had performances as a part of the cultural exchange program between the two countries, which was held from October 7 to 11.
Conducted by Mehdi Haji-Qasemi, the performances of the ensemble at the opening and closing ceremonies of the program were enthusiastically welcomed by the audience.
The Algeria Radio website said , “The ensemble performed with Iranian traditional musical instruments which were unknown to the audience.”
The young ensemble performed folk music that dazzled the audience at the Tlemcen cultural palace.
Photos, cartoons, Iranian paintings, handicrafts and sculptures by Iranian artists were on display during exhibits at the event which was cosponsored by the Iranian Embassy in Algeria and the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO).
Tlemcen’s centuries rich in history and culture have made the city a center for a unique blend of music and art. Its textiles and handcrafts, its elegant blend of Islamic, Berber, Andalusian and French cultures, and its cool climate in the mountains have made it an important center of tourism in Algeria.
