Iran condemns violent crackdown on Yemeni protesters

TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (MNA) – In a statement released on Sunday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the excessive use of force by the Yemeni police against peaceful protesters and expressed deep concern over the aggravation of the situation in the Arab country.

“While Yemeni people, in various cities across this country, have been peacefully demanding their rights, government forces killed and injured dozens of people, using heavy weapons and poison gas,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast lamented.

“The Iranian Foreign Ministry is deeply concerned about the course of events in Yemen and condemns the use of violence against peaceful demonstrations of Yemeni people,” Mehmanparast stated.

In addition, he said the use of violence will complicate matters further, emphasizing that the only way out of the current crisis is giving in to the Yemeni people’s legitimate demands.

Elsewhere in his statement, Mehmanparast criticized international organizations for remaining silent about the violent suppression of people in Yemen.
