Wojcinski 'the unlucky Cat to miss GF'
(AAP) - Geelong defender David Wojcinski is the only unlucky player to be dropped for Saturday's AFL grand final.
It emerged earlier that Wojcinski would miss out for utility Paul Chapman, who
returns from a hamstring injury.
Wojcinski, who was recalled for the preliminary final, has played 132 games and was
a member of last year's premiership team.
Hawthorn made no changes, meaning ruckman Simon Taylor and defender Tom Murphy are
emergencies.
Murphy was a late withdrawal from the preliminary final team and Taylor played most
of the season, only for younger ruckman Brent Renouf to take his spot in round 21.
Renouf, who has only played seven games, then consolidated his spot during the finals.
The Cats will have four first-time grand finalists - Harry Taylor, Tom Lonergan,
Mark Blake and Travis Varcoe.
Blake was the hard-luck story of last year's premiership, controversially dropped
for the grand final in place of Steven King.
Apart from Wojcinski and King (traded to St Kilda), the other Cats missing from last
year's premiership team will be Nathan Ablett (retired) and Shannon Byrnes.
Hawthorn are in their first grand final since the 1991 premiership.
This is the first all-Victorian grand final since Essendon's win over Melbourne in
2000.
"Obviously I am disappointed, but this isn't about me," Wojcinski said in a story
posted on the club's website.
"The most important thing is our team, and preparing to play Hawthorn on Saturday.
"Every player on the list has been working toward this week since November last year
and all of the focus should be on the game.
"I will be supporting my mates and the team on Saturday and playing any role that I
can to help us win."
