MITI Officials To Visit Flood-stricken M'sian Companies In Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 (Bernama)-- International Trade and Industry Ministry officials will visit Malaysian companies affected by massive floods in Thailand within the next one month, Minister Mustapa Mohamed said on Tuesday. He said while the government sympathised with the Malaysian investors who have incurred huge losses in the floods, it urged local companies to assist their Malaysian counterparts to continue doing business there. "We've huge investments in Thailand, particularly in the auto component and banking sectors. So, we will go there to lend moral support to them to tide over the problem," he told reporters at a networking session with trade and industry associations held here in conjunction with Deepavali celebrations. He also said trade value between Malaysia and Thailand would probably be affected by the disaster. "In a day or two, we should get the total trade value figure for the month of September, and although we have not seen any effects yet as of September, we expect the trade value in October to be slightly affected," he said. Thailand has been facing severe floods since August this year -- said to be its worst disaster in 60 years. --BERNAMA
