Asia To Lead Global Growth For Next 20 Years, Says Research Expert
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- Asia is expected to lead global growth for
the next 20 years, supported by industrial revolution, intra-regional trade and
growing population, says Standard Chartered Head of Research, West, Marios
Maratheftis.
“We think Asia is leading growth right now, but this is not a temporary
phenomenon, Asia leading growth will continue for a number of years, for at
least for the next two decades,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the
“First Asian Central Bank’s Watchers Conference” here on Tuesday.
Maratheftis said although China was the global dynamo, the rest of Asia
would play a significant role, with India probably outgrowing China in the next
20 years.
“We're already seeing Indonesia performing extremely well, Singapore and
Malaysia are open economies and will benefit from any increases in global trade
and global economic growth,” said Maratheftis, one of the conference speakers.
Asked on Malaysia’s position in the next 20 years between China and India,
he said: “Malaysia is already a very respectable and significant global
financial centre and it’s already one of the world's exporting economies.
"So, Malaysia is well positioned in terms of infrastructures, to benefit
immensely from this global economic super cycle," he added.
