IJF Trains Young Journalists In Higher Level Reporting Techniques

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The International Journalism Fellowship (IJF) entails, not just training young journalists on acquiring new journalistic knowledge but also assists them in developing critical skills in research and analysis of information. Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) chief executive officer Chamil Wariya said this might help them to have a deeper insight and understanding into higher level reporting techniques. He said the fellowship -- in its fourth year since its launch in 2008 -- would also emphasise on reporting on religions and conflicts, understanding new tools for reporting, besides the new media and photo-journalism. He said this at the opening of the 4th MPI IJF here on Tuesday. The fellowship was opened by Broadcasting Department director-general Norhyati Ismail. This year's fellowship, which is participated by 19 journalists from developing countries including Namibia, Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia, will end on Nov 25. The journalists will also be taken on a visit to Terengganu and the Belum Rainforest Park in northern state of Perak during their training programme. Chamil said since the programme was first launched, 89 young journalists from 18 developing countries had been trained. -- BERNAMA
