Top German Leftist MP Urges Dialog with Iran

Berlin, Nov 10, IRNA - A leading lawmaker of the German opposition party The Left, Wolfgang Gehrcke here Thursday called for a 'dialogue' with Iran in a bid to end the nuclear standoff with the West. Gehrcke stressed in a press statement that only negotiations between the West and Iran could lead to a 'lasting solution.' The foreign policy spokesman of The Left party made clear threatening Iran with military actions and sanctions was not acceptable. He urged the German government to help mediate in the nuclear conflict between the West and Iran. Gehrcke said the latest Russian proposal aimed at resolving the Iranian nuclear dispute should be looked at 'seriously' by the West. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has proposed a new 'step-by-step' approach to restart talks between the West and Iran over the nuclear issue./end
