Princess Mary evokes memories of Diana
Images of Denmark's Princess Mary walking alongside demining experts in Uganda have drawn comparisons with Princess Diana, who waged a vocal campaign against the scourge of land mines.
The Australian-born Crown Princess has used her visit to the east African country to observe the critical work experts are doing to clear fields of undetonated mines.
Images of Princess Mary in a protective vest and face mask evoke memories of the powerful message the late Princess Diana sent to the world when she walked through mined countryside in central Angola.
Princess Diana was moved by the plight of so many Angolans, including children, who lost limbs when they stepped on mines left hidden in the ground after a two-decade civil war.
The land mine problem has also touched Princess Mary, who made sure she devoted some of her time in Uganda to the cause. She watched as experts from the Danish Demining Group described their critical work
in Gulu, in Uganda's north. She also spent time with children being cared for at a clinic in a camp for internally displaced, mirroring the type of work that earned Diana her "People's Princess" title.
Princess Mary was in Uganda as a patron of the Danish Refugee Council.
