Six-month-long World Music Festival from Oct 9 in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, Oct 4, 2008 (WAM) - Leading musicians will perform during the six-month-long Festival of World Music in Abu Dhabi, which kicks off with a performance by Taksim Trio from Turkey on October 9 according to a report in ‘Khaleej Times.’
The event is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).
From flamenco guitarist Diego Amador and oriental composer Anouar Brahem to classical Iranian Dastan Ensemble and the melodic pipe of Liu Fang, the event will be a fusion of traditional folk music from the artistes’ native lands of contemporary jazz and classical notes.
Ever since the release of Norwegian jazz musician Jan Garbarek’s Eventyr in 1981, ethno, jazz and classical music has been used quite frequently to create that soulful, longing sound.
Only a few musicians truly succeeded in their quest and Taksim Trio is among them. Featuring three of Turkey’s most in-demand master instrumentalists, Taksim Trio is made up of Husnu Senlendirici on clarinet, Ismail Tuncbilek on baglama (stringed instrument) and Aytac Dogan on quanun (percussion instrument). Their 2007 album ‘Doublemoon’ held the top spot for three months in their homeland and was even broadcast on the highly authoritative and selective BBC Radio 3.
The Irish-Greek multi-instrumentalist and composer Ross Daly will perform on October 23. Born in England of Irish descent, Ross Daly travelled as a child with his family around the world.
His first instrument was the cello, which he studied in his childhood years in America.
