Sanctions Will Not Stop Iran's N- Program: Turkish FM

Berlin, Feb 5, IRNA -- Western sanctions against Iran will not halt Tehran's nuclear program, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told the 48th Munich Security Conference on Sunday.
Reiterating that negotiations were the 'best' way to settle the Iranian nuclear stalemate, Davutoglu said sanctions were 'not meaningful' to stop the development of the Iranian nuclear process.
Turkey's top diplomat stressed the Iranian nuclear issue could be solved 'within a few days', if there was 'mutual confidence and a strong political will' by the West and Iran.
Pointing to his country's mediation role in the Iranian nuclear impasse in 2010, Davotuglu said the technical matters of the case could be overcome.
He added that if the Tehran agreement, brokered by Turkey and Brazil would have been implemented, it would have resulted in a 'meaningful dialog' between Iran and the West.
Davotuglu urged 'serious negotiations' by both sides in a bid to reach 'very concrete results.' He warned that a military strike against Iran would 'create a disaster in the region.'
Ankara has repeatedly reaffirmed Tehran's right to have peaceful nuclear technology./end
