W NUSA TENGGARA TO HOST 5TH NATIONAL SCHIZOPHRENIA CONGRESS
Mataram, Indonesia, Oct 10 (ANTARA) - West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province is scheduled to host fifth national congress on schizophrenia from October 24-26.
"The decision was made not because of significant number of cases but as an effort to promote NTB as one of tourist destination," dr Elly Rosila, director of Mataram mental hospital said here Friday.
She said the fifth national congress on schizophrenia was a part of the 26th World Mental Health Day commemoration on October 10 which featured mental health as a global priority by increasing services through advocacy and social activities.
The national congress which will be held at Sentosa Villas and resort, Senggigi tourist site, West Lombok Regency is organized by Association of Indonesian Psychiatrists (PDSKJI)involving around 400 psychiatrists and students of psychiatry.
"It is expected that the congress will result in various recommendations that lead to serious attention in handling the mental disorder cases and funding from government and private sector," she said.
Rosila informed PDSKJI will also hold a one-day seminar with the topic 'Insomnia: The Impact and How to Overcome It' on October 23 at Lombok Raya Hotel, Mataram which is meant for laymen to apprehend the sleeping disorder with its various problems.
"At the same location and on the same day a simposium with the theme 'Psychiatry Examination for General Doctors' will also be held," she said.
A series of events in commemorating the world mental health day has a purpose to expand people's knowledge of mental health.
Eventhough mental disorder does not implicate directly to death but it cause long individual suffering and heavy burden for the family.
Therefore, mental disorder needs to be recognized and anticipated at the early stage because it is not merely a psychosis matter but has wide coverage.
"Anxiety, depression, laziness, inability working with peers, easily angered, insomnia, drugs and alcohol addiction, senility and schizophrenia can be categorized into mental disorder," she said.
