Iran's FM Spokesman Urges London To Stop Meddling In Other States’ Affairs
Tehran, May 2, IRNA – Foreign Ministry Spokesman urged London to stop intervening in the internal affairs of other countries under pretext of defending human rights.
In his weekly press briefing on Tuesday, he made the remark in reply to a question about the British Foreign Ministry’s annual report which claims cases of human rights violations in Iran.
He said the British government kept meddling in other countries’ affairs under the cover of human rights and asked London to stop behaving in this manner.
He advised the British foreign office to focus on human rights violation inside the UK instead of intervening in other countries’ affairs and reminded London of the UK police's violent clashes with protesting students in the city of Tattenham as well as with anti-capitalist demonstrators.
Describing suppression of protests in Britain as “dismaying”, he recommended human rights organizations to carry out an investigation into human rights situation in the UK.
In answer to a question on the latest claims by Saudi Arabia against Iran which accused Tehran of trying to assassinate Saudi ambassador in Cairo, Mehmanparast rejected such claims as baseless.
He said they served the purpose of satisfying the Zionist regime and its supporters in the region.
The foreign ministry spokesman noted that following up these false issues would only made the Zionist regime happy.
About the anti-Iran activities of certain members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, he said Iran was of the opinion that grave developments were underway in the region which, contrary to the fantasies of these countries, would take quite another turn.
Saying that public uprisings in the region are the most recent features of developments in the Middle East, he said the best way for regional counties are to adapt themselves to new realities./end
