Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee gestures after receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award from India's Vice President Hamid Ansari (R) at the 59th National Film Awards 2011 function in New Delhi on Thursday. India's Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni is also seen. Dadasaheb Phalke award is India's top film award given in recognition of the lifetime contribution of an individual in any aspect of the country's film industry. The 77-year-old Soumitra Chatterjee is a legendary Bengali actor who made his debut in Satyajit Ray's film "Apur Sansar" and then went on to enjoy a great actor-director relationship with Ray by starring in his classics like "Charulata", "Ghare Baire", "Devi" and "Aranyer Din Ratri". Chatterjee received the golden lotus medallion, a cash prize of Rupees 1.0 million and a shawl from the Vice President for the award. PTI Photo
