UAE takes part in WHO sub-committee meetings in Cairo
Abu Dhabi, Oct 12, 2008 (WAM) - UAE Health Minister HE Humaid Al Qattami, has said the UAE delegation is presenting papers on the national health achievements, including eradication of polio, flaccid paralysis and malaria at the activities of the Regional Committee of the East Mediterranean countries of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Cairo.
The Committee is discussing a number of health issues in the Mediterranean basin, on top reviewing health reports on new epidemics threatening the world.
He added that the UAE has been selected in the international panel to follow up combat of the diseases which threaten health at the world level.
Al Qattami stressed the meetings coincide with the 60th anniversary of the WHO, adding that they discuss a number of health issues, notably HIV, smoking, climate changes and their effects on health, as well as anti malaria strategy in the Mediterranean basin.
