Emarat operates gas gathering, receiving and distribution station in RAK

Dubai, Oct. 13 2008 (WAM) - Emirates General Petroleum Corporation's (Emarat ) has started operation of a gas gathering, receiving and distribution station to supply customers in the Al-Hama and Al Ghail industrial areas in Ras Al Khaimah.

The move translates Emarat's plan to expand the Gas Pipeline Network's services of the gas operations department in Sajaa, Sharjah, and is facilitated in coordination with RAK Government Gas Authority.

The station became operational through interfacing and using of Emarat Gas pipelines network which is extended throughout the Northern Emirates.

Engineer Khalid Al Awadhi, director of Gas Operations Department , said in a statement that the move was based on an agreement between the Corporation and the Gas Authority of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah to transport RAK own gas using Emarat pipeline network.

'Work on the completion of the station took a full year, during which the preparation of plans, drawings, economic viability, distribution network capacity, and security and safety procedures followed during the compilation and re-pumping, transportation and distribution across the network were completed', he added.

The new station will increase the volumes of gas transported via Emarat Gas Pipeline Network over the next years, and raise its efficiency. The new station will continue to supply the gas network for the next ten years at an average of 50,000 Million British Thermal Units (MMBTU) of gas per day (280,000 IG Diesel) and expected to generate a net profit amounting to 228 million dirham over the next ten years based on the current gas transportation tariffs.

Al Awadhi clarified that the station usage and duties can now be extended and expanded for many years in the event of new gas fields discovery in Ras Al Khaimah or new gas supply from the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman.
