QSA, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar Sign MoU

Doha, June 18 (QNA) - Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) and Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar signed on Monday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at organizing and enhancing partnership and cooperation between the two sides in various areas. The MoU seeks to enhance knowledge in scientific research; training and community development as well as the exchange of professional experiences between scientists and researchers in business management, information systems, public policies and statistics thus to achieve the common goals of both institutions. The MoU is also meant to encourage university students to volunteer in QSA's activities and programs serving the Qatari society. Following the signing of the MoU, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani, QSA President and Dr. Ilker Baybars. Dean of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar have stressed the importance of this partnership, which would serve the Qatari community. QSA puts the development of skills and abilities of its employees is a top priority to keep pace with the great achievements made by the State of Qatar in the field of statistics at the international and regional levels, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani explained, expressing hope that this MoU would serve as a model for new partnership with various education institutions in Qatar. QSA is conducting negotiations with Northwestern University in Qatar to establish bilateral cooperation in the field of information and communication as part of the Authority's strategy to enhance its communication capacities in terms of statistical data dissemination and raise awareness among the population and encourage them to take advantage of the statistics , said HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani. For his part, Dr. Babirs said that the strategy being implemented by Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar comes in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 in general and the pillar of human development in particular, which seeks to empower the people of Qatar so that they will be able to sustain their country's growth. The signing of this MoU comes within the framework of QSA's efforts to develop statistical capacity by collecting, analyzing and disseminating, and take advantage of educational programs, strategic research in various academic fields and in accordance with Carnegie Mellon University's plan to conduct scientific research and strategic studies within the State of Qatar.
