UAE reiterates commitment to combating terrorism
New York, Oct 14, 2008 (WAM) - The United Arab Emirates reiterated its commitment to continue combating terrorism and stressed its view that this problem is among the gravest challenges which threaten the interests, security and stability of all states and societies at a time when terrorist perpetrators and financial sponsors increasingly use more complex plans and methods that rely much on globalized trans-national and cross-border technologies.
This came in a statement delivered by Khamis Rashid Al-Shemeili, member of the UAE delegation to United Nation before the General Assembly Sixth Committee (Legal) which concluded a debate on measures to combat international terrorism.
The UAE, he said, calls for all-encompassing and non-selective implementation of the General Assembly's international anti-terrorism strategy which was approved two years ago as well as for transparency and objectivity.
The UAE also calls for non-discriminative boosting technical assistance and training programs offered to developing countries so as to enable governments to develop national anti-terrorism capabilities.
The UAE urged for dissociating terrorism with particular religions, nationalities, cultures or ethnic groups, criminalizing all practices and that insult religions as well as instigators of those actions which promote hatred and terrorism.
The UAE also called for promoting respect for the rule of law and human rights in all anti-terrorism plans and programs so as to promote effective measures against the phenomenon.
