12 October Independent Day marked

(KPL) Vientiane residents held a meeting here last Friday to mark the 63rd anniversary of 12 October Independent Day and a celebration of the 450th anniversary of Vientiane.
Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad and the Secretary General of Vientiane Party Committee Sombath Yealyheu were also present at the event.
Addressing to the meeting, Mr Sombath said that the declaration of Laos’ independence on 12 October in 1945 was a historical victory. The late president Kaisone Phomvihane said “This is a first time the Lao people have become the owner of their country after over 100 years of being slavery and having their territory divided. The victory constitutes opening new era of mobilising the Lao people to participate in fighting against enemies and achieve victory over them. In addition, the declaration also constitutes opening the era of special co-operation and mutual help between Laos and Vietnam to fulfil their objectives.”
