Sime Darby Foundation Offers US$420,000 Worth Scholarships To Liberians

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Sime Darby Foundation (SDF) has commenced its international scholarship programme in Liberia with scholarships worth USD$420,000 (RM1.31 million) being offered to Liberians to pursue tertiary education in Liberia and Malaysia this year. According to Sime Darby in a statement Monday, the scholarship programme in Liberia was part of it's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative in countries where Sime Darby had business operations. "The foundation will work very closely with Sime Darby Plantation Liberia (SDPL) for the administration of the scholarship programme with the full support of the Ministry of Education Liberia," the statement said. There were 20 excellence scholarships offered including five scholarships to outstanding Liberian freshmen at selected universities to pursue undergraduate studies at top universities in Malaysia for four years in civil or mechnical engineering. Another 15 scholarships would be awarded to Liberians to pursue undergraduate studies in Liberia including the University of Liberia, Cuttington University and Stella Maris Polytechnic in agriculture and engineering, the statement added. The full scholarship programme will cover tuition fees, living expenses and books while laptop allowances will be provided for the five scholars to be sent to Malaysia. The scholarship applications will commence from July 16 until Aug 15 and forms can be obtained online at www.yayasansimedarby.com or at the three selected universities. -- BERNAMA
