Etihad Airways cancels, diverts flights due to bad weather at AD Airport

Abu Dhabi, Oct 17, 2008 (WAM) - Etihad Airways, the UAE national carrier, yesterday has had to cancel, divert and postpone a number of flights due to emergency weather conditions at Abu Dhabi International Airport, according to an official source at the Airport.

"Six Abu Dhabi inbound flights which diverted to Al Ain Airport and one to Dubai International Airport. 17 other outbound morning flights were also diverted from Abu Dhabi Airport," the source said adding that "Etihad Airways had transferred passengers to other carriers."

"Six more Abu Dhabi outbound flights were cancelled to minimize the impact of the weather conditions on them during the day," it added.

"The taxiway was reopened today and the company resumed operating flights as scheduled. Some flights which had been diverted to Al Ain Airport were returned back to Abu Dhabi Airport." The source added that necessary action is being taken to enable the company to bring its operations back to normal. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
