Iran Warns UAE To Stop Repetitive Claims On Three Islands

Tehran, Oct 10, IRNA -- Iran on Tuesday warned the United Arab Emirates to stop repetitive claims on three Islands in the Persian Gulf, otherwise, relations will be severed. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that repetition of baseless claims on three Iranian Islands will leave negative impacts on relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and UAE. Iran is critical of the illogical claims the UAE officials raise with Persian Gulf littoral states to be put in final statements of regular meetings of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and the League of Arab States. The UAE officials have also raised the unfounded claim with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Any country seeking to spread discord instead of bolstering common grounds should expect its negative impacts on its relations with Iran, Mehmanparast said. "If baseless claims against Iran continue to put Iranian national interests at risk, relations will be lowered or even severed, he said citing to Iranian decision to downgrade relations with Britain upon an approval from Iranian Majlis and in coordination with the foreign ministry." The spokesman said that all countries in the region and the entire world are quite aware that these three Islands belong to Iran and the UAE itself know that they are integral parts of Iranian territory and the issue has been cited in educational and historical books of Iran and that of the Persian Gulf littoral states. Iran powerfully defends its territorial integrity and never compromises on ownership of the three Persian Gulf Islands, he said. He made it clear that the Islamic Republic of Iran tried to remove this misunderstanding by putting forward historical evidence and documents. "If they seek to pursue an illogical approach about the misunderstanding, they should know that Iran never compromises with any one who seek to violate Iranian territorial integrity,' he said. "Iran deems it necessary to give a proper diplomatic response in line with national interests and thwart enemies' plots to sow discord among regional states."
