Thailand's border trade slightly increases in Jan-Sept 2012

BANGOK, October 30 (TNA) - The Ministry of Commerce says that the value of border trade between Thailand and neighboring countries had increased slightly in the first nine months of this year, with the biggest share recorded with Malaysia. The Ministry of Commerce reported today that the value of Thailand's border trade in the January-September 2012 period stood at 682.6 billion baht, a slight year-on-year increase by 1.3 per cent. The Commerce Ministry acknowledged that Thailand had posted a surplus of 159.8 billion baht from the overall border trade in the first nine months of this year. The Commerce Ministry report showed that the biggest share of Thailand's overall border trade during the first three quarters of this year came from southern cross-border trade with Malaysia, amounting to 393.6 billion baht or accounting for some 57.7 per cent of the country's overall border trade value during the January-September 2012 period.
