Japan eyes hosting meeting on supervising financial system+

TOKYO, Oct. 22 Kyodo - Japan plans to hold the first meeting with other Asian countries, probably in November, to discuss enhancing controls on the financial system, Finance Ministry officials said Wednesday.

The gathering is expected to become an Asian version of the Financial Stability
Forum, a panel that advises the Group of Seven economies. The idea was agreed
on at a trilateral finance ministerial meeting of China, Japan and South Korea
in May.
Under the new framework named ''A workshop on macro economy and financial
stability,'' working-group level officials from financial authorities in
participant nations are expected to discuss assets of financial institutions
and market movements, the officials said.
Japan will ask the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to
join the new scheme, they added.
The G-7 groups Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United
States.
