S. Korean law professor re-elected to head IMO's legal committee

SEOUL, Oct. 24 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean law professor was re-elected as head of the Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organization, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.

"Chai Lee-sik, professor of law at (Seoul's) Korea University was re-elected as
chairman of the Legal Committee during the 95th session of the committee held in
London on Oct. 23," the ministry said in a press release.
The IMO's legal committee is in charge of reviewing and overhauling the
international regulatory framework relating to maritime security, it added.
Chai, who worked as a lawyer in South Korea and Britain, was first elected to
lead the committee in 2005. This will be his fourth term as head of the
committee.
"Professor Chai's reelection is expected to help South Korea play a leading role
in establishing international regulations on maritime affairs," the ministry
said.
