TOKYO, Oct. 27 Kyodo - Britain's Prince Charles arrived at Haneda airport in Tokyo on Monday evening
together with his wife Camilla, marking the start of his first visit to Japan
in 18 years.
During his five-day official visit, the Prince of Wales is scheduled to have
dinner with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko and meet Prime Minister Taro
Aso in Tokyo.
The royal visit to Japan will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the two
countries' signing of an amity and commerce treaty.
Prince Charles is also slated to visit the city of Nara to see the restoration
work at the Shosoin treasure house in the Todai temple, as well as the Afan
Woodland in Nagano Prefecture where British author and active environmentalist
C.W. Nicol is undertaking forest regeneration work.
Prince Charles last visited Japan in 1990 with his late wife Princess Diana
when he represented Queen Elizabeth II at the enthronement of Emperor Akihito.
His second wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, has never been on an official trip to
Japan before.
